Pond – The Weather

There’s nothing quite like listening to an album that you’ve never heard before but feels like you have. The first track ‘30000 Megatons’ (annoyingly no comma here to make it difficult to know what number this is) feels like a futuristic fanfare to an album that mirrors its cover perfectly. A Robert Plant-esque vocal with a backing fit for any late 00’s sci-fi movie raises the stakes immediately. The next track ‘Sweep Me Off My Feet’ could be ripped straight off of a Tame Impala album which is nice on my earholes but if I WANTED KEVIN PARKER I WOULD LISTEN TO KEVIN PARKER. The rest of the album is a sort of optimistic synth pop rhapsody which I can definitely enjoy but I don’t know if it goes deep enough for me to enjoy it over and over again. I can give it a few more tries because it catches my attention every time, and I always love that about music, hopefully I am wrong. Either way, I am definitely a new fan of Pond
