this is an EP from British singer/producer/artist Jack Garratt, following on Vol.1 of the same name, which i have listened to, but won’t review in full. after listening to jack’s last album ‘phase’, i was excited to see what he had next. vol.1 is 3 new tracks, and serves as a reintroduction to his talents. seemingly able to make electro-pop epics on request, i was not left wanting. ‘time’ from vol.1 feels like mumford and sons finally had some sort of inspiration and made interesting music in a different genre. Garratt is a one man band maxed to its potential. everything is epic. everything will make you head nod. he’s found and made use of every plugin available, it’s as if james blake was still really really sad but inside he was shouting instead of crying. in a good way. listen to it you will have goosebumps at least once
Vol. 2 impressed me straight away with ‘better’ and sent me back a few years, making use of one of the catchiest vines ever made. i will try to embed but if it doesn’t work don’t blame me alright?
omg call me mark fucking zuckerberg. it’s catchy and fun and somewhat immature but what does that even fucking mean? it feels like a wombat feature with whiny lyrics and amp’d up guitar riffs. i once got laughed at for liking the wombats when i was 17 years old, FUCK YOU THESSA. ‘better’ feels like a club track destined to end up on tik tok or something, but just enjoy it no matter however superficial you deem it to be.
i like how these tracks don’t necessarily fit in one box, sometimes it’s the wombats, sometimes disclosure, sometimes james blake. it’s impressive and entertaining and jack always seems to be on his own journey behind it all. big time enjoyment from this one.
